When you’re working on complex or focus-intensive tasks, it’s tempting to keep pushing through until it’s done. But extended hours can drain you, affecting focus and efficiency for the rest of the day. Instead, dedicate specific time blocks for tasks—whether it’s 3 hours for building a solution or 1 hour for a strategic planning session—and stick to these limits.
By committing to stop when the block ends, you’ll find a balance between high focus and sustainable energy, and if necessary, you can pick it up later with a refreshed perspective.
Example: “This solution will get 3 hours today; when that time’s up, I’ll assess what’s next rather than pushing through.”
2. Capture a Quick Summary at the End of Each Task
At the end of each dedicated time block, take a few moments to capture what you’ve completed, what’s left, and any important next steps. A short summary can help solidify progress and give clarity for your next session, whether you’re revisiting this task tomorrow or passing it to a teammate.
